Do you have a white or black dot appearing on your DLP TV. Well the bad news is that means a hundred more will appear within a few weeks. What are these dots and how do you fix it? Well these dots appear because of a failing DLP chip. Your tv is probably a few years old with this starts to happen. You fix it by calling your TV manufacture and request they send you a new chip (and you volunteer to replace the chip yourself). That is what I did with my Mitsubishi WD7373. At first they wanted me to pay for a certified installer to put the chip in, but I had the ticket elevated and the ended up shipping the chip directly to me via ups.

dlp dots appearing on someones dlp tv

Exchanging the chip is quite simple. Especially if you know how to change the processor in your computer. It is simply a chip that is seated in a special socket with a locking mechanism. It also has a heat sink just like a computer processor. I will go over each step in this article.

First you need to wipe away all dust on the outside of your TV. Then unplug the TV. Then you need to scoot your TV/Stand out so you have full access to the rear of the TV. You will need to unscrew all of the screws holding the bottom back peice of the TV on. This is called the service plate. Its basically the whole bottom rear part of your TV enclosure.

after removing service bracket

Now that you have removed the service bracker we need to uplug all of the wires going into the mainboard. Once completed, remove the hearsink. Now you will be looking at the mainboard that is held in place by a few screws. Some of the older TV’s have this board specially fitted so that the dlp chip is perfectly lined up with the light engine so the image on the screen fits the TV. If your tv is like this, use masking tape and a marker on each side of the mainboard to be able to align it back after you removed and exchanged the chip. I found that my mainboard had slots that it had to line up with in order to be seated properly so alignment was not an issue.

Now it is time to unscrew and remove the mainboard….but be careful. There is a small ribbon cord that you need to remove carefully so that it doesnt break. After removing the board this is what you are left with:

Once you have the board out flip it over. You will see the socket that you dlp chip is locked in. Simply turn the locking mechanism and remove the chip. Then place the new chip in …. only one way possible (make sure it is seated properly). Then lock it in. If you are certain it is seated and locked in properly go ahead and put the board back in. Make sure to insert the ribbon cable back where you found it in the board.

Next step is to plug all the wires back in (don’t put heatsink back on yet). We want to power up the tv and make sure there are no vertical lines on the screen that would indicate the chip is not seated properly. If you see the vertical lines then remove the mainboard and reseat the dlp chip. Repear these steps until the chip is seated properly. It took me two trys. Never run your tv longer than 10 minutes without the heatsink on the dlp chip.

a look at the mainboard durring testing

Once you are happy with the image on the screen, it is time to replace the heat sink (use cpu termal grease if you have some…i used artic silver #5….this should help the chip run cooler and last longer) and all the cableing back the way you found it. Now screw back in the service bracket on the back and viola! your done!

good as new after dlp chip change

The chip I was sent was generations newer than the one that originally came with my tv and broke. I am hoping the new chip will last longer than the 4 years that my first chip lasted.

Quick Decline Ultimate is a professional oil and gas decline analysis and economic package. Forecast royalty payments, compare well results, and predict economics.

**New Version Available**
To all of the owners, please download the latest version from your original download link. A new version is out. Here is the change log:
-increased the speed of the IRR calculator
-fixed economic issues when using “start at end”
-made wells with higher than 100% IRR equal to 100%
-fixed working interest issue with shipping and handling fees
-fixed GOR and Yield data generators for lower volumes
-implemented new curve dragging algorithm to smooth out the process of changing IP’s on the curve fit page
-fixed some issues with new curve dragging technique
-removed automatic “start at end” after the auto curve fit algorithm finishes. If you want the curve to start at end after the auto forecast simply hit the start at end button now.

Quick Decline Ultimate is a professional oil and gas decline analysis and economic package meant to be affordable to anyone (direct competitors like PHDwin charge thousands of dollars for a license). Forecast royalty payments, compare well results, predict economics, rank projects, store all of your previous work in the built in database, and so much more. Quickly and easily pull in data from any source using the unique built in clipboard feature (basically copy/paste). This program also imports IHS and HPDI (now DI Desktop) export files. You can also link Quick Decline Ultimate to your company’s production database to dynamically pull production for your company’s wells each time you evaluate them. This program is the perfect compliment to our Texas Production Query Tool.

This program is not just for petroleum engineers, royalty owners can also use this program to attempt to forecast royalty payments. Simply fit your land’s production data then output the economics in monthly format. It’s that simple. Anyone can use this program it is so quick and simple. This program was built out of necessity (by me) to help me quickly and easily perform decline analysis and economics on wells that I was investigating. Pulling the production into Aries was too time consuming for the quick looks I do. This program is the perfect tool to copy production data into and get and answer to the well’s economics almost instantly. I also put in an automatic curve fitting routine to help fit declines faster. All you have to do is type in the correct b factor and then hit auto forecast and viola (assuming your data has a nice and normal decline otherwise you may want to manually fit the data). If the auto forecast can’t seem to figure out your data, simply go the the curve fit chart and drag the curve around until you match your data.

This program was built to match Aries as closely as possible. It uses hyperbolic, harmonic, and exponential curve to forecast production. The economic analysis uses very familiar parameters the to average petroleum engineer. At the moment only BFIT calculations are matched closely to Aries. I do have planes to match AFIT calculations, but at the moment the AFIT numbers are just there as place holders. I have even included a sheet sheet to help non petroleum engineers fit the production data for their reservoir.

Quick Decline Ultimate is being brought to you at the extremely affordable price of $99.00. Most decline and economic packages today like PHDwin and Aries sell for several thousads of dollars per license. This program is an attempt to provide the average royalty owner, landman, or garage petroleum engineer a full featured and robust decline and economics package. This program requires Microsoft Office 2007 (specifically excel and access). It is recommended to have at least 2GB of memory and an Intel Core i5 or higher processor.

Texas Production Query Tool is designed for royalty owners and engineers to pull up almost all public information about a well. This program taps into the RRC.

Warning:
The RRC has posted that they are shutting down certain parts of their website to the public from 8-11am on weekdays. This affects L337Tech’s Texas Production Query. If you have a RRC login then you can simply log on (using internet explorer) and the tool will function normally. Currently I have not felt the effects of this shut down but I am sure implementation is eminent. The tool should function normally outside of the shut down window.

Texas Production Query Tool is a tool designed for royalty owners, petroleum engineers, and anyone else attempting to investigate wells in Texas. This tool allows you to enter an api number or double click a well from the entire Texas active well index to pull up the production data and basic information about the well. The tool also provides direct links to well logs, completion information, arcgis map location, and well file documents. The tool can also pull pre-release production data for wells that are so new they have no lease number. The program figures out if this is the case and looks for the data in the appropriate place seamlessly. This tool is your one stop shop to find out everything about a well in Texas. Since the tool uses Excel as a front end, you can copy down all the api numbers of the wells on your farm or the wells in your investigation into an adjacent column to quickly have access to them again.

This tool was built and design by Senior Reservoir Engineer with many years in the business (me). This tool was originally built out of necessity to help me investigate certain wells that were very early in their life where data is hard to come by. No one gets data earlier than the state, which makes this tool so powerful since it taps into the data provided by the Texas RRC (rail road commission) web site.

The Texas active well index provided with this tool has all of the active wells in Texas provided in a sortable list. If you know your land is operated by “Chevron” and the county is “Panola” and the lease name starts with “Adams” then simply sort the list like that to find all the wells on your land. The Texas active well list will be updated once a month. Your purchase only guarantees you the list of the month you purchased, but you will be allowed 10 downloads so it is possible to re-download the application in a new month with an updated list. Once you run out of downloads you will need to re-purchase the application.

This program can also be used with tools like my Quick Decline program to estimate ultimate recoveries from wells and generate detailed economics with any interval cashflow and other economic output. Quick Decline is currently unavailable for purchase, but see the example in the demonstration video. Using Texas Production Query Tool and Quick Decline together can help land owners predict royalty payments and Petroleum Engineers predict economics on new projects.

A couple of quick notes about the available Texas well data. Production before 1993 is unavailable. Not all wells have well logs. Only wells completed after 2009 have detailed completion reports available by clicking the completion hyperlink within the program. For these wells you will need to look into the well files. Not all wells have well files (like recently completed well). For these wells use the well completion hyperlink. You maybe prompted about an error being produced for a specific well. This is likely due to production ending before 1993 or the well is too new and has no data. If this occurs the hyperlinks should be your best source of information. Typically production data trails the current date by two or three months depending on the well’s operator. This program does not allocate production back to the well level for lease id’s that have multiple wells. This program requires Office 2007 later (specifically Excel and Access) to be installed on the computer expected to run this application. The computer should also have around 2GB of RAM installed. You must also have an active connection to the internet.

By clicking the purchase button you understand the data limitations mentioned and program requirements above and are agreeing to these Term Of Service.

If you read my last post then you know that I am selling my leftover components after building a new rig to get ready for BF3. What we have here is my most favorite motherboard of all times the Intel XBX2 commonly known as the “Bad Axe 2″. This motherboard has been the most rock solid mobo I ever owned.

Within the motherboard you will find the intel e6600 core 2 duo which at stock runs 2.4Ghz. This rig has been running at 3.6Ghz since I first built it with a slight bump in voltages. The cpu is cooled by cooler master’s hyper 212 with an extra 120mm thermaltake fan attached.

There is also a sweet north bridge heatsink with active cooling. The memory is brand new 4GB worth of GSkill ddr2.

The pictures should clear up your question. Upon purchase of these items I promise to dust off the heatsinks.

Same drill as on the last sale, if interested email me at comments@l337tech.com and I will email you a paypal invoice with the extra standard ups shipping included. I am asking $150 for this bundle (plus standard shipping).

Still Available

I built a new rig to ready myself for Battlefield 3 on October 25th. I am selling off my parts that made up my old rig. Here you have two HD4870 512MB version video cards that I was using in crossfire. The two crossfire cables will come with the purchase of these cards as seen in the photos. One of the cards is made by ATI and the other by Saphire. They run great and never game me problems. I was running them stock (no overclock). I have had them in my rig since last Christmas. I am asking $160 for the packaged deal (Two HD4870 512MB GPUs, and two crossfire cables….as seen in the pictures).

If you want to purchase them simply email me at comments&#64l337tech&#46com and I will send you a paypal invoice. Shipping will be calculated based on where you live using standard ups ground rates from ups’s website.
